These are the standards SafeKitchn’s content follows, from research through publication. We’re a small, independent team, not a large newsroom, but we hold ourselves to the same basic rules: research before writing, disclose what we don’t know, and correct mistakes when we find them.
Who writes and reviews our content
Articles are written by Sarah Emirone and reviewed by James Daniels, B.Sc, an inorganic chemist and materials researcher, before publication. Every published article carries both names. See their full profiles on our About page.
How we source information
Our starting point for any product is the manufacturer’s own specifications and safety documentation. From there, we cross-check claims against public regulatory sources, primarily FDA food-contact compliance rules and California’s Prop 65 lead and cadmium limits, and against independent test results or recall records where they exist. Where a claim rests only on what a brand says about itself, we say so in the article, rather than presenting it as independently verified. As explained on our How We Test page, we do not operate our own materials-testing lab.
How we choose what to cover
We select products and topics based on reader relevance and the strength of the safety question involved, not based on payment. No brand can pay for a review, a higher ranking, or inclusion on this site. Where we earn a commission through the Amazon Associates program or display advertising through Google AdSense, that relationship is described in full in our Affiliate Disclosure, and it does not influence which products we recommend or how we rank them.
Keeping articles current
Product lines, certifications, and regulations change. We periodically re-check published articles against current manufacturer and regulatory information, and update or flag them when something has changed. Every article displays the date it was last updated.
Corrections
If you believe something we’ve published is inaccurate or out of date, tell us and we will look into it. Confirmed errors are corrected as soon as we can verify the fix, and a meaningful correction to a safety-related claim is noted in the article itself.
